Creamy Flaxseed Milk Recipe

flaxseed milk recipe

We all know and recognize that milk substitutes have become a real trend in recent years, with more and more people turning to these options (like flaxseed milk, for example) as a substitute for traditional cow’s milk.

Whether for reasons of veganism or to reduce the consumption of animal products, or due to allergies or sensitivity to milk protein – casein.

What is essential to know is that these milk substitutes are incredibly healthy and full of nutritional value, so even those who do not fall into the categories mentioned should consider adding them to their daily routine. Now, right, I know. Sometimes, it seems that something trendy doesn’t really deliver the goods and must pass. But this is not the case regarding milk substitutes, especially flaxseed milk, which provides the goods in a wonderful form.

So, what's so special about flaxseed milk?

Flaxseed milk is not just another substitute on the shelf, not at all! It is an ideal milk substitute with significant nutritional benefits that cannot and should be addressed. Flaxseed milk contains high amounts of omega-3, an essential fatty acid for us. In addition, it contains many dietary fibers, which support the functioning of the digestive system and help prevent chronic diseases. And what else? The milk contains powerful antioxidants such as lignans and vitamin E that fight free radicals, protecting the skin and the immune system.

What can you do with flaxseed milk?

Beyond the delicious and familiar option of drinking it naturally or adding it to coffee, flaxseed milk integrates wonderfully into a wide variety of recipes thanks to its delicate taste and creamy texture. It can be used in smoothies, porridge, pastries, or pies. That’s why I recommend preparing the milk without added sweetener so it will fit any recipe you want. Sweetness can always be added to your ready-made flaxseed milk.

Here Comes the Flaxseed Milk Recipe!

Gather Your Goodies

1/2 cup of flax seeds

4 cups of water

1-2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup (optional for adding sweetness)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

A pinch of salt (optional to balance the flavors)

How to Whip it Up?

Soaking the Seeds:

Soak the flax seeds in water for 4-8 hours or overnight to soften the seeds and make grinding easier.

Filter and rinse the soaked flax seeds well. Make sure to use a filter with sufficiently small holes.

Put the seeds and the cups of water into a powerful blender.

Add the natural sweetener (if using), the vanilla extract, and the salt.

Turn on the blender at low speed and gradually increase to the highest speed for 1-1.5 minutes until a smooth and uniform mixture is obtained.

Filtering:

Pass the mixture through a filter bag (nut milk bag) or a clean cotton cloth into a large bowl.

Press well to filter all the liquid and separate the milk from the pulp.

Storing:

Transfer the filtered milk to an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator.

The milk will be kept in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

It is recommended that the flax particles and fat be shaken well before each use to ensure that they are well mixed.

Tips:

After filtering, the remaining seeds (pulp) can be stored in the refrigerator and added to smoothies, porridge, or even meatballs.

You can undoubtedly add cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger to the blender before grinding according to personal preference.
